LPAT Preparation Course at British Council-accredited school
One to One English is a London-based British Council-accredited school offering a dedicated Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT) preparation course for Hong Kong teachers and trainee teachers seeking professional guidance.
Passing the LPAT examination is a challenge even for candidates with good English. Past LPAT results tell us that the speaking and writing papers are the main obstacles, with an average pass rate of less than 50%. How can you ensure you are in the 50% segment that passes? We have a team of British native teachers with extensive experience in preparing candidates to pass the LPAT examination.
All you need is a computer with webcam and microphone and WeChat/Skype installed. You can select your ideal timeslot from the timetable below and take your lesson at a convenient time and place. Our online lessons save you the time and trouble of travelling to and from a learning centre. Most importantly, due to the time difference between London and Hong Kong, you can schedule your lessons as late as midnight when local tuition centres are closed.

Details about the course
The specific focus of the course is agreed between you and your British teacher following a pre-course assessment (included in the price). Typically, we focus on the speaking and writing papers as candidates struggle most with their productive skills and tend to be more comfortable with receptive skills. In order to help you pass these two very challenging papers, we use fast and effective teaching techniques to boost your confidence and results.
Practice makes perfect and preparing for the Writing paper will involve regular completion of essays. These must be submitted to your teacher in advance of the lesson, allowing the essay to be marked and returned so you can review the corrections and comments before the lesson. In this way, lessons focus on addressing any specific problems identified. Our teacher will discuss the errors with you and look at how your essay writing can be improved on a continuous step-by-step basis. Your lessons will also cover classroom meta-language, which will be essential for part 2 of the Writing paper.
Preparing for the Speaking paper will involve you submitting a recording of yourself reading a passage. This will be reviewed during the lesson and then practised again at the end, taking note of the improvements and areas where work is still required. Our teachers are experts in phonological improvement. Besides, they all speak British English which is most commonly taught at school in Hong Kong. If you are already familiar with the British accent and pronunciation, it will be easier for you to improve on your speaking skills by learning from a British native teacher than starting afresh by learning a new accent and pronunciation from a non-British teacher.
As teachers, you know that the result of an exam lies substantially in the preparation you put in. The LPAT exam is no different and you will need to start preparing at least 2 if not 3 months in advance.
You may start the preparation as early as you wish, with October being the most popular time to begin. To start in October, you should book in August/early September at the latest.
Lessons are 80 minutes each, taken on a 1-to-1 basis, and we recommend a minimum frequency of one lesson per week, ideally two. Daily classes may be possible according to teacher availability.
Usually our online courses are booked in packs of 10, 20 or 40. However, we are currently running a promotional offer allowing you to try out the course with a special starter pack of just 5 lessons. We're confident that you will want to extend your course once you have experienced our teaching methods. We invite you to follow in the footsteps of many students who have succeeded with the personalised approach of One to One English.

About One to One English
The school, based in Central London, was founded in 1999 and has been continuously accredited by the British Council since 2006. Our latest inspection took place in June 2018 and the inspectors praised many aspects of the school in their report. We specialise in small group classes and 1-to-1 lessons. This means that all of our courses are tailored to each student’s individual needs, delivering the maximum possible benefit in the time available. Our teachers are all British native speakers, qualified and experienced in preparing candidates for the LPAT examination.
